FlyNex looks back on the eventful year 2021, characterized by cooperation with exciting new partners and promising projects. For example, the Medifly project kept us busy this year. Medifly is supposed to ensure the transport of medical goods within the city of Hamburg. In addition, FlyNex implemented drone live-streaming in the FlyNex platform in collaboration with KSI Data Sciences for the first time. Another milestone this year is the integration of orthophotos.

To give you a little sneak peek of future development, we dare to take a look inside the crystal ball and highlight the three tech trends to be expected for 2022.

1. Artificial Intelligence in All Industrial Sectors

Artificial intelligence, or AI for short, is no longer a novelty. The self-learning algorithms are already being used in many areas. So it is not surprising that AI solutions are springing up everywhere and that the technology is now increasingly mature. However, experts see AI only at the beginning of its triumphal march and suspect further market penetration in 2022.

The data obtained with the help of AI should become much more resilient in the future and help make well-founded decisions and reliably derive recommendations for action.

For this purpose, FlyNex, in cooperation with specialized software providers, enables data obtained by drones to be evaluated quickly with the help of AI. In this way, valuable resources can be saved in the future, for example, when detecting gas leaks or construction defects.

2. Digital Twins

Another trend that will become increasingly important in 2022 is working with digital twins. Digital twins transfer physical objects, products, or services 1 to 1 to the computer. The aim of these models is to enable data to be exchanged between the digital and physical world over the entire life cycle of an object – from planning to evaluation. The areas of application of digital twins are diverse and offer great potential for cost savings and increased efficiency.

An application example from the construction industry illustrates the benefits of this tech trend: The 3-D replicas can be used, for example, to monitor the condition of construction objects. This can be done digitally with the help of the twins. Environmental data such as temperature amplitudes or storms are used for calculations. In this way, wear and tear and damage can be reliably predicted and predictive maintenance can be carried out from the office.

3. Automation

Automation is already part of the industry-standard in cloud computing companies, but this tech trend is still far from finding its way into all industries. That could change in 2022. Due to the shortage of skilled workers and the currently prevailing war-for-talent, repetitive and recurring work can only be carried out by employees to a limited extent in the future. Positions remain vacant, and delivery bottlenecks threaten. In addition, the digitization in the public sector, which is progressing further due to the corona, is giving process automation a further boost.

For example, drone flights offer the advantage that surveying work that used to be time-consuming and often dangerous can now be carried out safely and efficiently. FlyNex relied on this tech trend last year. Together with MITNETZ Gas, we conducted the first fully automated drone flight for gas detection at the end of the year.

We look forward to a promising new financial year and working with new and existing partners.
